Ginger Essential Oil

 

Ginger is a perennial herb that grows to about 3 - 4 feet high (approximately 1 meter). It has a characteristic thick spreading tuberous rhizome. The essential oil is produced from the root by steam distillation, and is a pale, slightly greenish yellow, darkening with age. Many people smelling it for the first time are surprised, and even disappointed because it does not smell like the dried or preserved ginger with which they are familiar in cakes, etc. In fact, it smells almost identical to the 'green' or fresh root ginger. Oil of Ginger, in small proportions, blends well with many others, especially Orange and other citrus oils. A single drop can be added to a massage blend for arthritis, rheumatism, muscular pain and fatigue.



 

 

 


 

Using Ginger Essential Oil

 

Mind & Spirit

  •    For mood swings, a general feeling of disconnectedness, and to shake off the tendency to procrastinate, use 2-3 drops in a diffuser or place on a cotton ball and inhale 2-3 times. This will help to re-energize and revitalize mind, body, and soul.


 

Health

  • For arthritis, backache, fractures, muscle pain, and rheumatism, use 2-3 drops in 2 tablespoons of carrier oil and massage into affected areas. Another choice would be to use 2-3 drops in a hot or cold compress on affected areas.
  • To stimulate the circulatory system, use 2-3 drops in 2 tablespoons of carrier oil and massage into body.
  • For runny nose,sore throat, sinusitis, or as a decongestant use 2-3 drops as a steam inhalation.
  • To stimulate the lymphatic system, dilute a drop with vegetable oil, on a cotton ball, and dab on the arm pit area.
  • To revitalize libido:use 2-3 drops in 2 tablespoons of carrier oil and use as a massage, or diffuse 2-3 drops into air

 


Bath & Sauna

  • Bath: Blend 5-8 drops in a teaspoon of carrier oil or full fat milk, add to bath.

 

 

Massage

  • For a pain-relieving and warming massage, combine the following: 6 drop of ginger essential oil and 2 tbsp of carrier oil.

 

 

Diffused In Air

  • Diffusers: Add 2-4 drops of essential oils to a burner, aroma stone or aroma stream.
